This study was concerned with the construction and validation of a Financial Distress Index (FDI). A stratified (UK) sample 2000 adults completed new measure as well measures financial anxiety, general stress money attitudes. The FDI correlated highly establishing concurrent validity. For FDI, men scored lower than women, there an inverse association age for highest income bands. unit increase in seeing security associated reduction 16%, whereas increases generosity, freedom, or power status were of, respectively 21%, 24% 19%. Implications limitations are discussed.
